MCCAC CEC Program

The Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC) plays a pivotal role in advancing energy efficiency initiatives across municipalities in Alberta. Through its diverse programs and support mechanisms, MCCAC empowers local governments to implement sustainable practices that mitigate climate change and reduce energy consumption.

Simplify Energy works closely with the MCCAC and many municipalities in Alberta to access MCCAC grants and support the delivery of projects funded by the MCCAC. Currently, Simplify is on the prequalified consultants list for the Community Energy Conservation (CEC) Program, which provides up to 50% off the cost of an energy audit, and provides funding to implement retrofit projects in municipal buildings in Alberta.

CEC Program

Simplify Energy Consultants is committed to assisting municipalities in Alberta maximize their energy efficiency through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre's (MCCAC) Community Energy Conservation (CEC) program. This initiative offers substantial financial rebates to municipalities aiming to identify energy-saving opportunities and implement retrofit projects in their municipally-owned facilities.

Why Participate in the CEC Program?

Who Can Apply?

The CEC program is available to municipalities across Alberta, offering up to $500,000 in financial support per municipality. Eligible facilities include:

  • Recreation centres, arenas, pools

  • Libraries, offices, town halls, community halls

  • Public works buildings

  • Fire halls and emergency operations buildings

  • Water and wastewater treatment facilities

  • Other facilities evaluated on a case-by-case basis

Funding Details*

  • Energy Audits: Covers up to 50% of pre-GST audit costs per facility, capped at $7,500 for all municipal facilities.

  • Retrofit Projects: Provides funding for 25-50% of pre-GST project costs, depending on the abatement rate achieved.

  • Retrofit Project Bonus: Grants an additional 10% rebate on project costs if the retrofit results in a 20% or greater reduction in facility-wide emissions.
