About FCM's Green Municipal Fund

The FCM's Green Municipal Fund (GMF) is a fund developed by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) to provide essential financial support for municipalities aiming to enhance environmental sustainability within their communities. Through feasibility studies, the fund assists in developing pathways for significant GHG reductions and energy efficiency improvements in community buildings.

GHG Reduction Pathway Feasibility Program

With the GMF study grant, municipalities and not-for-profit organizations can assess the feasibility of near-term and long-term GHG reduction projects. These studies aim to outline measures to achieve substantial GHG reductions over defined periods, enhancing building operations and reducing overall ownership costs.

Funding Snapshot

  • Maximum Award:

    • Single Building: Up to $65,000 covering 80% of eligible costs.

    • Portfolio of Buildings: Up to $200,000 covering 80% of eligible costs (not exceeding $65,000 per building).

  • Open To: All Canadian municipal governments (excluding LC3 municipalities) and municipal project partners.

  • Application Deadline: Applications are accepted year-round until funding is fully allocated.

Eligible Projects and Buildings

Eligible projects must include at least one community building owned by a municipality or not-for-profit organization. These buildings serve as hubs for athletic, recreational, cultural, and community programs, fostering health, well-being, and economic development.
